Course Objectives:

🟢 Day 1: Fundamentals of Advanced Road Geometry

🔹 Principles of horizontal and vertical alignment in road design.
🔹 Design controls: speed, sight distance, and safety considerations.
🔹 Cross-sectional elements (lanes, shoulders, medians, clear zones).
🔹 Case study: Reviewing alignment of an expressway for safety improvements.

🟢 Day 2: Horizontal & Vertical Alignment Optimization

🔹 Advanced curve design: circular, spiral, and compound curves.
🔹 Superelevation calculation and application for safety.
🔹 Sight distance and stopping criteria for high-speed roads.
🔹 Practical software session using AutoCAD Civil 3D/OpenRoads.
🔹 Case study: Evaluating an existing road’s alignment for improvement.

🟢 Day 3: Intersection and Interchange Design

🔹 Advanced intersection types: at-grade, signalized, roundabouts.
🔹 Interchange types: diamond, cloverleaf, turbine, and SPUI designs.
🔹 Design considerations for urban vs. rural interchanges.
🔹 Pedestrian and cyclist considerations in geometric design.
🔹 Case study: Designing a high-traffic urban intersection.

🟢 Day 4: 3D Modeling and Geometric Design Software

🔹 Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) and earthwork analysis.
🔹 Integration of topographic surveys into design.
🔹 3D geometric road design using AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or InfraWorks.
